you Welcome to Under the HUD, I'm Thaddeus. And I'm Dan. And this is episode 2. On today's episode we're going to do a bit of a retrospective on the last few game events. That includes Summer Game Fest, Xbox Showcase, State of Play for May 30th, 2024, and the latest Nintendo Direct for June 18th, 2024. But before that, Dan, how have you been? I've been alright. Just got off work a few hours ago, so I'm a little tired, but other than that, I'm surviving. You have the stamina. Great. I'm pushing it out. Bite that lip. Kick those legs. Alright, so no other new and exciting events in your life? No, no, no. It's the fucking hottest time in the world ever. God is it ever. Yeah. I am glad I can just stay inside in the air conditioned house all day. My office were real sick fucks and they're like, hey, we're going to for our meeting today, we're all going to walk to our other to our new office. Why fucking street at 1230? And I and they're like, I was like, yeah, you guys can walk. I'm going to drive. Yeah, I literally was the only one that drove. But I told the manager like yeah, I'm gonna go pick up everyone fucking dollar drink days because you're all gonna be dead after yeah I'm gonna go fucking pick up like iced coffees for everybody cuz you're all gonna be fucking dying But I also told everyone like if you work in the lab, I do not want you walking It is a small place in that lab I'll need your sweaty ass back rubbing up on me We're trying to navigate this lab Yeah Some people really do like the heat and no complaining and all of them were like sad So why do they walk why? Well, I'm like it was a 10 -minute walk, but it probably felt like 30 minutes are too many for me and it's yeah, and our address code at work is all black Yeah. Actually, no, the other person that drove was one of the doctors because she has a busted leg. And they're like, why did you go with her? I'm like, because I also want to be alone. It sounds awful, but I need time away from all of you. Yeah. I just did a fucking 11 hour shift. I don't want to be around you guys. I started at nine and I left at eight thirty. Leave me the fuck alone. And I'm training, so it's like... And I'm training people so it's like, fuck. Yeah, it sounds like I drew the last time. my god. I have no tolerance for the heat at all, so... On a 20 degree or 32 degree temperature. Here's the thing they don't get. We have activated melanin. We absorb the heat. yeah. We don't bounce it off our bodies like these white porcelain men. You know? Yeah. Our natural defenses against skin cancer work against us. Yes, it does. He sucks for it. He just bakes. It's like you see like, what do they call them? Where it's like streams of heat. Like, you know, when you see like I think they're called sunspots, but it's like when you when they do like close -ups of the sun they see like that fire just kind of spit out and curve back into the sun. That's what it's like except it's curving into my body. Yeah. Yeah, I see the hell out of the sun. It's like when the Highlander kills someone and you absorb them. That's me with heat. Yep. Just like pulse and we get carried into the sky by it and everything. Yeah Well, it's not just that it's like okay the women they get to wear light airy clothes They get to wear capris they get to wear sandals. I wearing fucking dickies an undershirt and a fucking polo The heaviest fucking shit. Yeah, especially polo the fucking poles. Yeah, it's like we're in a sponge And you know, I'm like, yeah, I don't feel like having a fucking asthma attack today. Or like a fucking just like sunstroke. Yeah, it's like that 50 level air quality. Well, no, it's it's the shock of going from extremely hot to extremely cold. OK. Or going from extremely cold to extremely hot. That's why I have it like right at like peak winter and peak summer is like that breath of fucking AC. Like your lungs like freak the fuck out. Because yeah going from like ice -cold winter into a war house. Mm -hmm. It's like the air inside your lungs It's like the Grinch's heart Except it kills you We don't have dr. Seuss world bad nick rules. Yeah Remember when I said I was done? I remember when I said, yeah, that's it. And then I bitched for another 15 minutes. That'd be good. That'd be good. Nothing too crazy. I mean, my coworkers are just me, myself, and I, generally. I mean, I haven't gone out to do sweep stuff as much ever since I moved out here. So this can little... Well, I was going to say, you no longer... the city, right? Yeah, yeah, so they'll call me up for sleeps and everything. So yeah, it's just me and my lonesome and your coworkers are the cats and the dog. Yeah, yeah. I can't complain about that. I mean, the cat can be a little bit of an asshole sometimes, but you know, that you're a good boy. All right. My dog's not. He's not. Well, he's old, so he's old. No, he's no, he's not going to do that. He's just pissing everywhere. Yeah, you're mentioning that actually even when it's replaced for Christmas. Yeah That's why I had to get the extractor vacuum The push one instead of the one where you get on your hands and he isn't crawl around in the minefield that is piss But I don't look forward to that Well, no the extractor vacuum actually is like I'm like, okay, it's actually clean. Mm -hmm. Like it's disturbing that it's like Why is it fucking black my full my carpet wasn't that dirty was it yeah? You do this You go over a second time you're like it's all clear now. Yeah, it's like yeah when I use the the bissel Yeah, you pour it out, and it's like coca -cola. Yeah Yeah, well that's the bissel that I have but it's the it's the well you know I think you have the same one where like you use like super hot -ass water Yes, yeah, that dries in like 15 minutes. Yeah, and then like it's the push one so you're standing up Yeah, yeah Fucking invention definitely Although I wish they would make one that's like because I've seen one that's like an older style that but it looks like a like a dust buster Hmm So it's like I had it doesn't use the heated water system, but it's like a Handheld dust buster Bissell where it's like wet and it only calls like maybe like two cups of shit Like steps or something. Yeah, it's like a like a spot The spot, right? Right. Right. Which I'm like, that would be really easy to go pick up the little tiny because he he just pisses because he's old. Yeah. You can't hold it all the time. So we're trying to keep like a diaper belt on him. But he's also a dog. So he just like slides around on the floor and pops off. Right. Well, he has nothing else to do all day long. Yeah. I think at this point, it's it's too late to get him used to it. Well, I mean. My wife's cousin's husband used to put real diapers on their dog. human diapers? Yeah. And like, just cut a hole for the tail. I'm like, I'm not ready to do that. Yeah. When I see that, I'm like, that's a waste of diapers. Back in the old house, there was someone who had lived near who actually had to have his dog in a diaper. I'd walk back to her. He'd have his dog in a diaper and ask him why. And he said, because... I mean, you know, no, no. Well, I mean our town or my old town your current town Yeah has a coyote problem And so it was a female dog. They kind of come around a female dog and I guess he didn't Spay her on time. so she had periods and even after she speaks still has periods. So that's all that whole thing attracts coyotes So ever since, so yeah, I didn't realize that was a whole issue that, I mean, it makes sense, but yeah, the dog period attracts the coyotes into the area. So it's a whole thing to protect her and themselves, I guess. So if I ever want to like create like a coyote trap, I just gotta get dog period blood. Dog period blood, there you go. You want it in your backyard, right? Perfect. Or get a security system too, right? Have them in your backyard at night. Just create a pit. Like like a fallout yeah I would create pits full of the the ghouls Did you ever do that I don't remember that it's been a while I don't know if I got that crazy with the base stuff like I kind of I don't remember Liking the base building as much so I Did enough just for it to work right in, stick around and get super creative or crazy with it. Well, I don't want to toot my horn, but you know my personality. yeah, yeah, I can see you having tons of fun with that. And so what have you been playing? Mostly just been playing Elden Ring. Yeah. I respect my character. That's what he's looking like now. No, he's still the same. He's still. Yeah, but what's the what are his stats now? I took away most of his magic. So instead of having 50 in dexterity, he now has 80 in dex. And I switched out his twin blades for curved swords, blood curved swords. because it just made more sense. Do I just want to keep jumping everywhere? Even though jumping the jump in Elden Ring, the invincibility frames, it has a lot. So it's a positive thing. It's just not great in PvP because everyone expects it. So yeah. Although I still put it up enough endurance for my guy to wear the heavy ass armor I don't know cuz I like I at first I like respect him to be like Hardcore like arcane was like 60 and his decks was like 85 But like he couldn't wear the heavy armor. I Was getting like fucking white does it? Did you have the charm or the talisman? Yeah, I had the source C alone. Yeah So his attributes are higher, but he takes more damage. Yeah. no, not that one. There is one. The dragon shield charm? I think no. That indicates physical? No, there is specifically a talisman that increases your weight, your load, bear. that's the jar shards, right? I think so. I couldn't tell you the name of the top of my head. It's either the Jar Shards or the Urn Tree Talisman or whatever the hell it's called. Yeah, Jar, Great Jar's Arsenal Talisman. Yeah, that is one of the few things that have glitched in my game where it's just not there. that sucks. Because I was like, I remember fighting those phantoms. OK. But maybe I'll go back and see like maybe I am I able to so if I drop an item are you able to see it? and pick it up. Yeah, so I can do that then just Save scum it and get then get exactly how you do dupes. Alright, so I will whenever you're ready. We can do that for you. I'll get you that back It sounds like you really need it if you want our armor unless you have four childsmen to really prefer The only reason I was trying the light armor was so I could wear that you know that feather cloak that adds to the jump attacks You remember the outfit that I wore? Yeah, I took all that shit off Maybe it's not worth that extra blood and jump damage Maybe just having that extra like poise is more yeah to not look like a fucking fool. Because I have to look at my character still. Like, Elden Ring really needs a trans-magio. This is why we should have fucking played online or on PC. Yeah, PC, yeah. Hopefully they do that in Elden Ring 2. Then I could look like a fucking Battletoad or something. It's like the secaromata Thomas tank engine there's in the reflight the tank engine Yeah But yeah, it's mostly just Elden Ring getting ready for the Getting ready for the Shadow of the Iron Tree. Yeah, and also avoiding spoilers but to get my YouTube kick of Elden Ring I've been just listening to a lot of lore videos. Yeah. Yeah It's surprising how little of the story I actually understood. I didn't. Yeah. When I got to the endings, I had to jump ahead a bit. But I beat it on all three endings. And I'm just like... I see the cutscenes and it's like cool atmosphere, but I don't know what any of it means. I'm just like, whatever. Well, I have some lore videos. loaded up to watch. It's once about two and a half hours long and then they say, but I think I think it's that one. And then he's, he's like, I have a whole channel's worth of lore videos. You can go through all 99. So I don't care that much. I don't care that much about what goes on in Elden Ring to, there is a war for a ring and everyone was fighting for it. That's, there you go. Yeah, so I was like that's what I was doing while I was like, hey, I'm driving home. I might as well listen to this shit. I don't know. Sometimes I don't feel like listening to music. Yeah. You know, although I have been Dolby more to like the 1980s, like easy rock. Well, is it easy rock? If it's more like a trans am rock, like the shit you would hear out of people's cars. Yeah, you know like like Steppenwolf and shit. Yeah, aren't they 80s? I know they were in a lot of movies in the 80s. So I feel like it was actually like 70s. It's a possibility. I don't know that I know when They're popular. I don't know necessarily when they came about 1967 and they were the most popular between 1968 1972. Steppenwolf All right, so that's I've also been listening to like Ozzy and shit. You know, even though it's kind of black, you know, it's not my usual hip -hop infused everything. Yeah, yeah. You know, it's good to broaden your horizons. Honestly, there's just some music that sounds better with my audiophile headphones and unfortunately it's not rap. Because rap is just bass and it just... bass and vocals. You know? It's not... You know? Like it's not... I like it, but I'm like, eh, if I want to really get the most out of my headphones, because my audio file game. Yeah, you are the retinal audio file, so... Well, I mean, not a huge audio file. Yeah, so just Elden Ring for you last while yeah, you know like you know just See what's out there I wait, I played a power wash simulator I just like you know, I feel like I want to do nothing. Yeah, let me play this And then I was like, okay, it took me like 20 minutes to wash this van. Why is it like washing a van in real life? And then it's like wash power wash. Because that was like the first level. And then the second level was like power wash yard versus dirty ass backyard. Like, okay, a lot of these things you wouldn't power wash. Why would why are you power washing a birdhouse? Destroy it. Why am I power washing rocks? Like why am I power washing this fucking kids the kids fucking toy car? Like like a like a power wheels Yeah So somehow less fun in real life Why? Why is this? Like, I was like, they're probably gonna step me up and I'm gonna have to like wash this person's like barbecue and they, you know, like wash the fence. And I was like, okay, that's it. And that's like wash the doghouse. They'll pay you $50 for it. I'm like, what the fuck? So, you know. Yeah, I got my girlfriend to play it a while back and... I mean I've played bullshit games before like I played cat lateral damage where you're a cat and you're just knocking shit over for no reason. I played unpacking simulator. This one's a little too, too tedious. I mean, I feel like the farming simulators would actually make more sense. Or like a lawn mowing simulator, because I'd be like, okay, well, I'm gonna get a lawn mower, I'm gonna mow some lawns and make some money. Or I play an auctioneer. You know? I can see some sort of strategy being worked into that one. This one was like, yeah, you can turn your... Fucking power power nozzle like left Vertical in the horizontal. It was like dead space Yeah, yeah with the cutter I'm surprised you got as far as you did. I'm surprised I got as far as I did Yeah, that's about it. Yeah. For me, it's the same. Mostly Elden Ring finally beat it and platinumed it. I got 80 hours in to bleed back, or 85 hours in back when the game was out. Then I just sort of, I got a little fatigued. And then with the DLC coming up, I finally decided, you know what? Now's as good a time as ever to just go in and beat the game and then I said, okay, well, it's not too much work to get the platinum. So I did all the little bits of extra work for it. And I talked about the getting the endings, getting the one warrior, I guess the one with a lot of fire is what I'll say. It was just a pain in the ass to get out of all the endings. It was a jumping down. Yeah. Yeah. The plat, the platforming. Little was a little annoying cuz I really are already don't like the platforming in the souls games and that was just nothing but it but that so That was a pain and to get it wasn't worth it. But that was my final trophy and I was one that let the Platinum pop so But I found that by accident. really? yeah. Yeah Cuz it's a secret. Yeah, I was like, there's gotta be something real cool down here You didn't get the ending though and then I did no no I I mean I didn't go for I didn't go there for the ending I actually had it way before okay, but I just but I I had the set of grace I just never I saved before doing the Yeah, I'd do that so I played the rest of it without the the What the fuck is it called the frenzy? Yeah, yeah flaming frenzy or something on those lines. Yeah flaming frenzy. Yeah But then when I found out was one of the endings I was like, at least I have the sight of grace and that creepy bitch that eats eyeballs. So yeah Did you keep her alive with yours or what? Yeah Apparently if it's you know, how there's that one part where you go to the Ford Belfry's and you can go to the original Area to get the dead maidens blood. Yeah You can actually use the the chick who eats eyeballs instead I didn't realize that. If you kill her. Because she's like, yeah, lay your hands upon me so I can feel the touch of my god. And it's like she just burns to death. Which is very awkward because I was not expecting that shit. That's what I was like, yep, just download Cloud Save and undo that. Yeah, that came in pretty handy near the end. She really likes to eat those eyeballs though. It's like a joke out of Rick and Morty. Yeah. Yeah, I mean I enjoyed Enjoy the experience overall near the end it was becoming quite a pain in the ass some of those boss fights and Thank you again for hopping in on some of those boss fights. no problem I I was gonna say I enjoyed the the the Malaydian fight a lot. Yeah You know, I thought that was like great. Yeah the dragon one Yeah, plus it plastics or something. Yeah The, I remember towards the end we were getting more and more quiet. I was like, come on, man. We got, we got one more. We got one more. I was like, try to talk you into it. Stay with me. Don't you give up on me, you son of a bitch. Yeah, I mean, it was then sort of felt like a boss rush mode. A lot of boss. Because we were cleaning up all the bosses. Yeah, yeah. The last three fights. it's a fight before the final boss. That was a bit of a pain. The big wrestler. Horlou. Yeah, yeah. Godfrey. Yeah. Yeah. And he was just a... Well, that's why I was like, man, I hope you call me in for that one. Cause I like that one. Yeah. It's worth the end of the second. It's probably powering through everything. And then you're like, yeah, I platinumed it. Like, shit. Yeah. I didn't want, I mean, when I was doing it, the thing is you might've been up. But when I was starting to get speed all those bosses, it was going well into the morning. It would be like two or three o 'clock in the morning. But then again, the one time when I was just like, fuck millennia. Yeah. You messaged me like five minutes after. Yeah. And I was like, he was actually out. I mean, I bet I sent that and I went to bed and I was like, three of them were. I was just studying. I thought you'd see when you got up. But yeah, now you're up apparently. I text you back at like 305 like yeah That's a little chance you could have been up I didn't want to bug you But hey, I mean they got DLC coming up I'm sure you'll be Hopping into each other's games during this whole cruise through and then just do it again. Yeah, remember how we had to beat every boss twice. Yeah But it's, I mean, it helped in terms of knowing what to do, at least it got easier the next time around. So. Not the worst. I think we did yours first where the, what's his name? The Godfrey the grafted. Yeah. Then after we did, we did mine. I was like, we did it like real quick. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. We basically walked through that whole castle that I was like. And that's like, okay, you gotta walk, you gotta come back and walk me through the fucking, get all the bonfires. Yeah. And I wish some of the progress transferred over. Yeah, it doesn't. No, no. No, then afterwards it was just like, okay, we're just gonna progress and just join each other for like, maybe like the last like 20 minutes of the board. Yeah. Yeah, for a while we were like, okay, we're just gonna adventure together and just do the exact same thing. Yeah. Twice. We're gonna play Elven Room twice. like, man, this really sucks without your horse. Yeah, you can't call a horse with that. Yeah, it's a, there's a pain. They lock you out a lot of things in co-op too. And I mean, it makes sense. You can't have your summons and a co -op player because that would just be getting to you overpowered, but still. Really? Because you can call it other people. Yeah, you can call them like three, you can call them three people. And you can call it blue, blue hunters, right? wait, no, it's a map. Well, blue hunters are for when red hunters come after you. You can call them blue hunters. I didn't know that. But you still only get a max of three people. That's a fun time looking forward to it. And I mean, I beat it over a week ago and I just play for about an hour today or hour per day to level up a bit. I'm still apprehensive about what level I'm at. 195 now. Holy shit. You're like only 10 levels below me. really? Yeah. When I got back into the game, I was about 150. And then, yes, but then, but I beat it at 170. Since then I just been grinding daily to level up primarily the my vigor because my vigor I beat the game with 40 vigor and I'm just like I don't know how he did that Everything is seeing at least 60 for the DLC. So I got up to there. Maybe I should boost my vigor up to like 80. I'm also like, fuck this. This fucking sucks. Yeah, it's so boring. Fuck these open orcs. Yeah Fucking worse is like what I'm just like getting bored. I'm like, okay. Yeah, then I die only I had to take this one real slow. So you go through and fight all the guys I Fight all of them. I used to do that and then it's I started realizing it's faster Just go and shoot go and shoot you run a sheet run issue run issue run issue. Wait, just just the bird. Yeah About time to take a few steps and then go she I used to go I used to go in I shoot the bird, I run through and kill everybody and run back, but then... Dude. I don't just run through down the hill. I kill the four red ones at the bottom, and I run into the blood area and kill all the ones there. Yeah, you're taking a step further along. It's way too long. And it's really diminishing returns, but I'm just like... How many times can I kill the sitting guys without feeling like, man... This is rough. At least with the bird, it's like, okay. It's mine. Yes. Yeah with that with the gray ones that are sitting you have to watch out for like the four red ones that are walking around Yeah, they're doing cartwheels. Yeah, and then they just shoot spikes on their body. Yeah, they're a pain in the ass. Anyways Yeah, this is the Elden Ring stream. Yeah. Yeah, I mean next week stay tuned So I have that I played a bit of like a dragon it could like a dragon nice Yeah, but I mean, it's sort of, it's a little tough, I'm trying to figure out what I was doing and just get back in the flow and the controls and the famous Japanese jank. It's a little bit of a clunky game, not necessarily the most intuitive controls or... Wait, you're playing like a dragon or like a dragon infinite wealth? No, I, so I want to finish the first one before I get to infinite wealth. you haven't beat, I thought you beat the first one. No, no, no, I started playing it and then something else came along. So yeah, I'm going back to the first one and beating that before I get to infinite wealth. So did you ever find the extra the second girl character? No, I don't think I'm that far at all. Okay. Yeah, cuz she unlocks a mini game and I must tell you I Got real lost in it Okay, it's a mini game where you run a cookie company, okay Honestly, I'm fucking awesome It's I the one I hated the most was the fucking go-karts everyone loves the go -karts I fucking like hate it Like it's not as good as Mario Kart No I'll definitely look keep an eye out for those parts Well, so I played hashtag blood Hashtag BLUD, which is a yep, it's like a hack and slash gender crawler game Zelda style, but The art style caught my attention. It looks a lot like mid to late 90s Cartoon Network, like Dexter's Laboratory type of style. nice. Yeah. So it's a fun game. I'm not super far in it. I sort of wished they had voice acting in it instead of the dialogue. Dialogue is more like Cult of the Lamb or Rayman where it's like... And you get subtitles. But it's decent overall. Here's where I get lost. A lot of it actually also reminds me of the South Park RPGs. I thought you were going to say Castle Crashers. that too, but I mean, just in terms of structure, where the story setup is the same and even the house that your main character lives in almost has exact layout as the house as your character has in the South Park. I think all the houses, the prefab houses in the South Park game. So it's reminded me a lot of that. You know what? I'm getting Swords of Ditto off this thing. I can see that to you. I mean, yeah, I can see that to you in the art flow. It might be by the same developer. I don't know if it's the same developer. The animation does feel like it, but the art style of mine is more of Dexter's Laboratory and those sorts of shows. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same developer. And is it only on Steam? I have it on PS4. I play on PS5, but it's a PS4 only version of it. And I bought Street Fighter VI. But then it's just like, I mean, I couldn't get anywhere in it because as soon as I start, I load it up, it's telling me you have to have a Capcom account and you have to log in with it. I was trying to log in with the one I thought I had, but it wasn't working and I was trying to track it down. And then I was like, okay, fuck it. I don't have time to just have to do all this work just to jump into a game. Yeah. So, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Little bit annoying. Well, I imagine that's gonna catch us on a monster hunter run. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're gonna catch us with that. yeah. So I mean, that's the bit I've been playing lately. Nothing too big, not too many games because again, Elden Ring is pretty much an endless game. And then I heard this DLC coming up is also pretty much the size of a game. So perfect. Yeah. It's worth the $60. Yeah? Well, it's $53, but whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's all I've got. So we'll get to the main topic. Over the last few weeks, there have been multiple game -related events. We had the State of Play, we had Summer Games Fest, we had the Xbox Showcase, and we had Nintendo Direct. So we're going to talk about the overall vibes and the overall feel of each show and then... rank them with what we personally thought was the best and maybe the worst of each. I guess we'll go through one by one and then we will rank them. So the first one was the Summer Games Fest. I thought it was Sony. Sony State of Play was the first one. So again, what did you feel about that one overall? Honestly, I thought it was alright. There were some where I was annoyed. Concord I was like, this is good. No, it's not And then like others like I was like, I don't care You know, but then there was like about five Maybe six days where I was like, all right. All right. I'm feeling this. All right. Yeah, you know there was let's see I Don't know why I've been treated by infinity dickies. Yeah, you've mentioned like I was like, it looks interesting. I know the gameplay is gonna be shit. They still like that stuff and I'm like, okay a little bit past Pokemon I can't really get back into that but like or the people who are like adults that play Lego games I don't know if there's that much of a cross over between horizon The only cross over I can see are parents and children. I don't know if they're designed for that But do the children's want do children want to play horizon though? I think they just like Lego and if they see their parents are in their horizon, but The thing I was going to also get to, I was going to get to is Horizon really a franchise awards that it doesn't seem exactly. It's only two games, two games and a VR one VR experience. And the second game was not. No, it died. It was dead. I mean, I think it sold a lot, but it still died in the war. But it got sweet baby. They're kind of enjoyable and done right. They can, they, I wouldn't say that they're scaring the shit out of me or anything, but they are more effective at being scary than, say, a movie because you're immersed in it. Like the Outlast games, I'll say, are good because you have always feel you have no weapons, so you feel powerless at the time. You're just kind of running and hiding. So I always enjoyed that. I like, I like, I like things that go a bit off the beaten path and this looks like it does it so yeah I'll definitely give it a shot. You can't make a sequel without addressing what happened. So I see that they chose diverging timelines and I'm sure that'll come into play. But yeah, We Chang, Fallen Feathers also looks good. Yeah, that's that's where it starts for me. And I'll say I. I'm curious about the Dragon Quest HD 3D trilogy. Dragon Quest? yeah. The HD 2D remake trilogy. Again, I don't have that much experience with Dragon Quest. I do like JRPGs, and I do like that style, like the Octopath Traveler games. So I'm curious to see what it's like. I'll have to see. Like, again, I don't necessarily, I didn't, I didn't find Dragon Quest XI to be that engaging of a game. And I know that I guess I didn't really beat it because I beat it. It rolled credits. But then there's this whole extra act where you have to go back in time and then you do a lot of backtracking to grind to fight all these extra, the final bosses is like, nah, I'm done. Like, I don't care about this game enough. So we'll see. I don't know if I'll feel about it. I feel the same way about the older ones, but... I can't see it. I can't see myself. I feel like I'd enjoy this a lot more. I feel like older RPGs were more about the nuts and bolts than modern RPGs. They're kind of caught up in cinematics, which are a little campy and cheesy. So, we'll see. As opposed to how, even though I was very, let's see what the word is, blase about Super Mario Party Jeopardy. They're always a fun time. Yeah. It's just. The kind of the one cool thing is that the Koopathon Koopathon mode supports over 20 players, but I imagine it's going to be like a 4v4 times five. yeah. So I was trying to see what the other, I know it was blending the Danganronpa mechanics with something else, but I didn't know what it was. yeah, no. You only think it's Pikmin because they're all, they look like Pikmin. Yes. But it's not actually Pikmin stuff. Yeah. Where you're like chucking the motherfuckers. Exactly. And I saw it, and I was just like, it'd be Metroid Prime 4. I mean, again, all this time, this buildup is like, you're going to have Metroid Prime 4 coming to Switch, and then in 2019, there's like, no, we weren't happy with the quality. So we're starting over again. And then five years later, finally get to see what it looks like. And I thought it was at first I thought it was just a port of one of the earlier ones. It looks like it. Yeah, it didn't. It didn't. It wasn't. Didn't look like the leap into the next into this generation. It should have been. I mean, you should have. But what graphics were they going to show? Yeah, I don't know. And it's just. It didn't look great. And it's just like the video they had wasn't anything remarkable. The gameplay didn't seem like as much of an evolution and the mechanics definitely needed to evolve. I played the remaster of the first one. It just didn't, it wasn't, again, that aged well. I mean, I will forever remember the memories of playing the original Winter 2022, 2002 and really enjoying that and just the atmosphere of it. When I went back to play it, when it came, when they re -released it, it was just very clunky and very, it needed a lot of quality of life improvements. So I'm hoping this one does it as well, but I feel like Metroid, the Metroid games just overall haven't really been hitting for me. I didn't, I beat Metroid Dread, but I didn't enjoy it. I heard that from everyone who played Metroid. Again, I only know one person who is a Metroid fanboy and he jizzes his pants when they announced the Metroid Prime 4 and everything. But I mean, I remember when I told him, when I told him I didn't like Metroid Prime remake or the remaster when he like took it personally, he was like, well, it's because you fucking suck. I was like, whoa, take it easy. It's like it's just. I know that's how I feel every time you talk about No, absolutely nothing cuz that's stupid. Yeah I'm like even with securo. I don't take a person. I just get a couple more antagonist towards I just try to I just try to get you more pissed Cooled off so typically I remember like that Can't eat your own easy. I definitely like it was definitely something I really enjoyed growing up, especially Super Metroid on Super Nintendo. That was a bit more groundbreaking before every 2D game that came out became a Metroidvania. in his current era and that some things have done a better job with the formula. I was gonna say before all the DS Castlevania games. Yeah, DS Castlevania games. And also just games, a lot of games like Hollow Knight, for example, just a lot of modern 2D games. Dead Souls? Yeah. Well, that's not really Metroidvania. That's more of a roguelite. I guess it has some elements. There's some elements, yeah. It doesn't have the backtracking. Like a Metroid game? No, but it had the The tunnels and the paths and everything. Yeah, I was gonna say the secret pathways and shit. Yeah, so I don't know if I love Metroid. I mean, I'll probably get Metroid Prime 4, but it's... Nothing in the trailer really spoke to me and the last few games haven't really been the greatest experiences for me. Like, I play them and it's this weird experience where I'm playing them enforcing myself to like them because Something is supposed to be good at the Metroid games. So I was And also Metroid dread you can't really get too upset. I mean, it wasn't like Nintendo made it wasn't it Mercury steam or something like that? I think it's Mercury steam. I think yeah the Castlevania guys, but I mean, you can't say that because They haven't made a Metroid game since super just like the super machine. Maybe I think the game was by Nintendo, but is retro fusion was good. Yeah. Yes. I'm saying but like Metroid Metroid Prime games were retro studios Yeah, and That shit one other was ninja team So yeah, so I mean, it's been Team Ninja. Team Ninja. Team Ninja, yeah. So it's just nothing's really been Nintendo since maybe, I'm not even sure if Zero Mission and Fusion were Nintendo. So you can't really say that's the reason. True yeah, I'm gonna say like I'm very wary of mercury steam games after those Castlevania Yeah, yes PlayStation yeah, there's a the second one in particular. I remember that one The second one was bad. Yeah as part where had to turn into a rat to get into something. Yeah, just Yeah, see that's what I was like what I thought it was back work you seem like I don't know guys, it looks so good though, but I don't know. Yeah, I didn't love it. I mean, again, it's, it's, I beat the game, but I just didn't, it was almost to beat it, just to say I beat it so you couldn't say I didn't beat it and hated it. I don't know, the best part of Metroid Dread for me is the outfit. Yeah. Yeah. Is the new suit. Yeah. I mean, there are moments where like the motion and everything is very fluid. And I like that, but it didn't feel as free and as exploratory as a Metroid game. A lot of it, it just felt like you were going down a certain path, and a lot of it was gated. There's a lot of times I think you're gated off in the game, and you had to go through a certain path. And the parts where you got chased by the robots were just very annoying, more than anything else. yeah. Yeah, I didn't necessarily. I just love the look of the power suit. Yeah, I'm with you there. With you there. Fucking awesome look. It was like a refresh because we were so used to the orange. Yeah They took zero suit Samus and gave her armor or I think it was fusion I think it was it was an upgrade from fusion Yeah, cuz fusion takes place after the time was all messed up I think fusion takes place after metric per mess super Metroid It takes place after superman. Yeah, and and because here she got like wrecked and then they've fused the metra. She got the alien suit. Yeah, yeah. So I think this is an evolution of that, if I remember correctly. Yeah. Yeah. And then at the end, you kind of get a new kind of suit too. So, but I don't know, I'm really disappointed. That's pretty much paints the whole show for me. It was a lot of shovelware and then the reveal of I'm four. Felt very dated and. underwhelming so yeah so I guess let's rank them yes rank them so so I think I think they'll do best to a worst and so top to bottom this time around all right I'm gonna have to say Now that we threw Summer Games Fest in there, I actually think it might be Summer Games Fest. Okay. No. I'm torn between Xbox and Summer Games Fest. Okay. You see yours like, I already... Because one of them's coming in third. Yeah. Because for me, PlayStation did a good, but not the best. Okay. Yeah, I'd say Summer Games Fest first for me. Okay. For me, the Xbox Games Showcase for me is definitely the first one. Well, they definitely have more games for you. Yeah, they have, yeah, definitely. So, even if it's not in quantity, it's definitely quality. I mean, just to wrap it up by thinking of Doom Dark Ages and thinking of Claire Obscure Expedition 33 right away, it's already won for me. Yeah. For me, number two, State of Play. Yeah. I think State of Play would be mine as well. I mean, it's... Yeah, State of Play is like a good second place, right? Yeah. And then I guess we flip -flop on the third where mine is Xbox and yours is Summer Games Fest. Yeah, exactly. I mean, for me... Unless you want to put Nintendo. So like, but Sony's had more things that were like, eh, all right, but appealed to me. Because like, I'm like, if I put one that has the highlights, like very small bits that were really cool. Yeah. And then the rest was kind of garbage that I need like the I need I need the I need the side chick, the reliable one. Yeah. You know, so so many slots in there. Then you have the you have the one that kind of comes around every once in a while, but she's also got a drug habit. It's apparently Xbox, in my opinion. OK. I think Xbox is the one that gives it away to everybody. It's probably the more accurate comparison. Well, I mean, Steam is for everybody. Yeah. Yeah. So because I was thinking I was like, you know, at summer games, fast they had the Power Rangers one. But yeah, for me, garbage tier. Well, not garbage here, but bottom of the tier list was Nintendo because they were bringing out a lot of titles, a lot of IPs and like, yeah, the old Reliables, you know, the the dried out beat up, trotted out dead carcasses. But then I was like, how out of the world? Like, I don't, a lot of them were in the form factor of things I don't care about. Yeah, pretty much. Like the Mario RPGs, I never cared about them once. I really have never given a shit. The first one was kind of, was a novel idea to me back when it came out. Well, that was also Squaresoft. Yeah. There was never another Mario RPG there are pgs with Mario yes, but there was never another Mario RPG. Yeah, yeah You know and then it's like all right where the fuck is fucking f0 Where the fuck are they you keep putting Captain Falcon in Smash Brothers? So yeah, for me it was Summer Games Fest. Yeah. It was straight up play. Xbox, Nintendo, Direct. Yeah, Nintendo Direct for me because it did more harm than good, I'd say. That's why it's got to be the bottom. It was the one where it was just, that sucked. Almost everything sucked. Again, maybe Dragon Quest HD remakes will be some of the interest to me. It's bad when we watch a Nintendo direct I'm like, you know, what looks good. You know what looks good, man Fucking Hello Kitty game, bro Looks fucking lit.
